The client for this project was Canadore College, specifically for the Graphic Design Showcase event held alongside the School of Media Arts Gala. I approached it as a real event branding project, developing a full visual identity and promotional design system that felt professional, modern, and strong enough to represent the showcase publicly. What made the project even more meaningful was that my design was selected for the final event on April 15, so the work moved beyond the classroom and became part of the actual showcase experience.

Project overview
This project focused on creating the visual identity and promotional campaign for the Canadore College Graphic Design Showcase event. My concept, Beyond Design, was built around the idea of pushing creativity past what is expected, using floating abstract gradient forms, a dark atmospheric background, and clean typography to create a look that felt futuristic, immersive, and professional. The goal was to design something that could promote the event clearly while also capturing the energy, innovation, and evolving identity of third-year graphic design students. What made the project especially important to me was that my design was selected for the actual showcase event, allowing the work to move from concept into a real public-facing piece.
Challenges
One of the biggest challenges in this project was balancing a bold, futuristic visual style with the practical needs of event promotion. I wanted Beyond Design to feel immersive, experimental, and visually striking through floating gradients, dark space, and luminous colour, but it still had to communicate the event information clearly and professionally. Another challenge was making the abstract forms feel expressive without becoming random or distracting, especially since the typography needed to remain clean and readable against such an active background. I also had to make sure the identity worked consistently across different formats, including the main poster and other promotional pieces, so the whole campaign felt unified rather than like separate designs.

Results
The final result was a polished and cohesive event identity that successfully translated the idea of Beyond Design into a strong promotional campaign. I was able to create a visual system that felt modern, immersive, and professional while still communicating the showcase clearly through bold typography, abstract gradient forms, and a consistent dark, futuristic atmosphere. The project was especially successful because the design worked across multiple formats, including the main poster and supporting promotional pieces, and my concept was ultimately selected for the actual showcase event, which gave the work a real public presence beyond the classroom.
