The client for this project was Canadore College, specifically for the hallway leading to the New Media Hub within the School of Media Arts. The brief was to create a visually engaging wall graphic that reflected the creativity, diversity, and energy of the program for students, staff, faculty, and visitors. My design was ultimately selected for the wall at Canadore College, which made the project especially meaningful because it went beyond being just a class assignment and became a real installation created for an actual campus space.

Project overview

This project focused on designing a large-scale wall graphic for Canadore College, specifically for the hallway leading to the New Media Hub in the School of Media Arts. My goal was to create a visually striking piece that reflected the creativity, diversity, and energy of the programs within that space while still feeling bold, clean, and open to interpretation. Titled Forms, the design uses abstract faces, geometric shapes, and a bright colour palette to create movement, interaction, and rhythm across the wall. What made this project especially meaningful to me was that my final design was not only developed as part of the assignment, but was also selected for the actual wall installation at Canadore College, allowing the work to move beyond the classroom and exist in a real public environment.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges in this project was creating a wall graphic that felt bold, energetic, and visually engaging without becoming chaotic or overwhelming. Because the piece was designed for a long hallway at Canadore College, I had to think beyond just one strong image and make sure the full composition flowed across the entire wall in a way that felt balanced from section to section. Another challenge was keeping the design abstract and text-free while still making it meaningful and interesting enough for people to stop and look at. I also had to carefully control the colour palette so it felt vibrant and full of life, but still worked together as one unified piece in the actual hallway environment. In the end, the challenge was finding the right balance between structure and freedom, so the design could feel expressive, open to interpretation, and still strong enough to work as a real installed wall graphic.

Results

The final result was a strong, large-scale wall graphic that successfully brought colour, movement, and personality into the hallway leading to the New Media Hub at Canadore College. My design, Forms, achieved the goal of feeling bold, creative, and open to interpretation, while still working as a cohesive visual system across the full wall. What made the outcome especially important to me was that the project moved beyond the classroom and was actually selected for the wall at Canadore College, which meant the work had a real purpose, real audience, and real presence in the space. Overall, the project was successful because it combined concept, visual impact, and practical application in a way that felt both professional and meaningful.
